Exciting new colour options for 2012 Hondas - 23/09/2011

Red/white colour option for CBR600RR
The product of race-bred design and engineering, the CBR600RR is the ultimate Super Sports package on road and track. Balancing searing performance with staggering agility and road manners, the bike’s links with Honda’s RC212V MotoGP race machine are obvious. Now the CBR600RR’s aggressive styling can be further enhanced with a stunning new colour option, Victory Red/Ross White.

Matt black colour option for 2012 VT750C2B
Combining menacing styling with intense fuel-injected V-twin power, the VT750C2B has been a hit with cruiser riders since it was introduced in 2010. Now the machine’s lean and minimalist bobber styling has been enhanced further with a Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic colour option, new for 2012. It’s not just the tank, seat and fenders that are painted moody black either – this stunning finish has also been used on the headlight, tail light, semi-drag-style handlebars, air cleaner cover and rear shocks. The result is a no-frills street rod with huge visual appeal.

Black and silver colour option for 2012 VT750C Shadow
Offering classical good looks with the latest in technology, including PGM-FI fuel injection and Honda’s Combined Antilock Brake System, the VT750C Shadow is the best of both worlds. A new colour option for 2012, Pearl Cosmic Black/Sparkling Silver Metallic, works with the bike’s timeless lines to deliver serious cruiser appeal.

THE NEW HONDA CBR1000RR FIREBLADE - 23/09/2011

Today, Honda officially unveils the 2012 CBR1000RR Fireblade, celebrating 20 years since it was first launched as the CBR900RR in 1991.

The new machine was revealed simultaneously at two world class racing events: the Le Mans 24 hours round of the Endurance World Championship in France, and the eleventh round of the 2011 World Superbike Championship in Imola, Italy.

On hand to unveil the new machine to race fans were John McGuinness, racing at Le Mans for the Honda TT Legends Team, and Jonathan Rea, rider for the Castrol Honda Team in the World Superbike Championship.

John McGuinness, winner of 17 races at the Isle of Man TT, commented:
“I've got a real soft spot for the Fireblade. I've ridden it in many different racing events over the years and had a lot of success with it. In fact, some of the most memorable moments of my career have been on the Fireblade - from TT wins to this year in the World Endurance Championship. Unveiling the new model here at Le Mans is pretty exciting and I'm honoured that I was chosen to do it. It's great that all the thousands of racing and Fireblade fans around the world will now have the chance to see it for real.”

Jonathan Rea, rider for the Castrol Honda World Superbike team:
“I feel like I have grown up with the Fireblade. It’s such an iconic machine and it’s an unbelievable feeling being the man to actually reveal the latest version. It really looks fantastic and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.”

Hirofumi Fukunaga, LPL for the 2012 CBR1000RR Fireblade:
“This is a model allowing all super sports bike lovers, including the most experienced, to savour the joy of owning the CBR1000RR Fireblade, while at the same time feeling more fun in sporty riding and more joy of riding than ever before, whether it be on winding roads or at a circuit.” (LPL = Large Project Leader, leader of model development)

2012 CBR1000RR overview:

New styling package
New nose, layered main fairing and a tail section bring a more aggressive and a dynamic look to the 2012 CBR1000RR.

HM Plant Honda prepared for Silverstone Showdown

The British Superbike Championship reaches the penultimate round this weekend at Silverstone as Shane 'Shakey' Byrne and Ryuichi Kiyonari prepare to close the point deficit in the overall standings as Jason O’Halloran returns from injury in the National Superstock 1000 Championship.

Shakey currently lies third in the standings, 25 points behind the championship leader following the opening Showdown round at Donington Park. Shakey had taken a fourth place in the first race before a collision with Michael Laverty in race two meant a determined ride back from a crash to eighth place. This weekend he is determined to make amends and put the HM Plant Honda Fireblade back on the podium in a quest to close in on the title leaders Kiyo meanwhile lies sixth in the standings and as he continues to regain his podium finishing pace the defending champion is seeking a stronger performance this weekend.

In the National Superstock 1000 Championship Jason returns from injury prepared for the final two rounds of the season. He has been sidelined since the Knockhill round following a crash but is looking forward to his return this weekend with the HM Plant Honda team.

Shakey said: “I am looking forward to Silverstone and getting back out on the HM Plant Honda Fireblade. Basically, this weekend we are taking everything we have learnt so far this season and condensing it so that we can start in a stronger position. The team have been working hard since Donington Park to see what else we can try, but we have a few changes to refine in practice and then we will be focused on the races and doing everything we can to put the HM Plant Honda Fireblade back on the podium again.”

Kiyo said: “The first Showdown round at Donington Park was disappointing as we didn’t score points in Race one, so at Silverstone we have to try and catch up in the points and get ourselves in a better position for the final round at Brands Hatch. The problems we have been having are not easy to solve, but I still think it is possible to fight with the other Title Fighters. The title won’t be easy to win now but I haven’t given up because anything can still happen; we saw that at Donington with Shakey and Michael. I will be trying hard to be back on the podium because I still want to win for the HM Plant Honda team.”

Jason said: “I can’t wait to get back on the HM Plant Honda Fireblade this weekend for the first time since my crash. I had waited to make a return when I felt that I would be able to ride like I need to and when I felt I had got my strength back to where it needs to be to race. Recently I have had a couple of rides on a Honda CBR1000 and it felt good, so I am looking forward to rolling out again on Friday and then getting some good results before the end of the season.”

HM Plant Honda team manager Havier Beltran concluded: “It is now the crucial stages of the Championship Showdown and it is imperative for Shakey to be at the sharp end again this weekend and for Kiyo to make improvements. The whole team are looking forward to Silverstone and there is still all to play for in the championship. We all hope that we have a strong weekend that can put us in the position we need to be going into the final round at Brands Hatch. It is also fantastic to have Jason back in the Superstock class this weekend as he has been out recovering since his crash in the race at Knockhill. The whole team is really motivated for this event so we are looking ahead to getting things underway on Friday in free practice.”

HM Plant Honda conclude opening practice sessions at Silverstone

The HM Plant Honda team returned to Silverstone for the penultimate round of the British Superbike Championship today with Shane 'Shakey' Byrne and Ryuichi Kiyonari ending the opening practice sessions in fifth and eleventh respectively.

In the opening session Shakey ran fifth fastest with Kiyo, who celebrates his birthday today, running sixth as the HM Plant Honda team prepare for the next two races of the Showdown on Sunday. This afternoon Kiyo just got nudged outside the top ten in the closing stages whilst Shakey finished fifth, following a technical issue in the closing stages that left him unable to make further progress.

This weekend also marked the return of Jason O’Halloran from injury in the National Superstock 1000 Championship. He ran eighth fastest in free practice before ending the opening qualifying session in 18th.

Shakey said: “I love this track from when I have raced here before, but it was a shock riding the HM Plant Honda Fireblade for the first time this weekend as it felt like riding a steel bar initially! That said though, the team have worked hard to turn things around and had it not been for a technical issue at the end of the second session I think we could have been faster. I know that the changes we have lined up for the morning will enable us to go faster tomorrow in qualifying.”

Kiyo said: “Today we have completely changed the electronics system and I am already feeling more comfortable and I am feeling good about the changes we can make to go faster for qualifying tomorrow. It is harder though trying it during a race weekend than at a test because you have less time, but we have been able to improve. I am hoping for a good birthday present in terms of results this weekend; it won’t be easy, but already I feel happier than before and want to fight again.”

Jason said: “It is good to be back on the HM Plant Honda Fireblade, but I am disappointed with how this afternoon’s session ended as I just couldn’t get into a rhythm after the two red flags. I had some problems with traffic too but I know with some clearer laps and more time on the HM Plant Honda Fireblade tomorrow that we can be higher up the order tomorrow for the second qualifying session.”

Team Manager Havier Beltran concluded: “We need to have both Shakey and Kiyo on the first two rows for qualifying tomorrow so that they can fight for those important podiums on Sunday for HM Plant Honda. We have had a few issues today but we will put that behind us and look ahead to tomorrow. We know that the HM Plant Honda CBR1000 has strong potential for Sunday’s races and we are looking to have a good qualifying session tomorrow. I am really happy with Jason and how he has continued to make progress today. All we are hoping for him is to have a consistent weekend so that we can come away positive for the final round at Brands Hatch.”

Hot New Deals On Honda’s Great Off-Roaders

Honda (UK) is pleased to announce some great new offers on its range of off-road machines for both 2011 and new-for-2012 models.

The class leading and championship winning CRF250R and CRF450R motocrossers, as well as the CRF250X and CRF450X highly capable enduro machines are all available on low rate finance* between 12 and 36 month terms when purchased new. With a minimum deposit of just 10%, you could own one of these great machines from as little as £140.00 per month (depending on model and repayment term)

The CRF450R yet again proved its prowess this year with Honda’s Brad Anderson ‘cleaning up’ by winning the British MX1, British Masters MX1 and Red Bull Pro National and Championships.

The CRF250R has secured a very strong second position in the MX2 championship with Pulse Racing DB Honda’s Elliott Banks-Browne, following an extremely competitive championship season – a result which further underlines the leading spirit of Honda’s CRF off-road machines.

Exciting updates have been already been announced for three of Honda’s flagship off-road machines for 2012, which sees improved suspension and power to enhance rider confidence and sharpen further the winning edge of these already hugely popular machines.

The class-leading CRF405R and CRF250R will be receiving engine updates, improved suspension and wider footpegs, while the CRF150RB will see engine updates for improved power, torque and driveability plus revised suspension to improve action. All three models will sport new Honda Racing-inspired graphics.

The CRF450R has optimised suspension on the front and rear with more rigid fork outer tubes, plus a tough and lightweight Honda Progressive Steering Damper. Combined with the new wider and lighter footpegs, these updates are designed to give riders greater stability on rough terrain and improve steering.

There are several changes on the CRF250R’s power-plant to include an all-new cylinder head and new camshaft for enhanced drivability at low and medium rpm, plus enhanced mid range power and torque feel. Other changes to this lightweight off-roader include new Pro-Link rear suspension linkage for enhanced traction and improved chassis control, new suspension settings and longer and wider footpegs for stable running on rough terrain which together, will further boost rider confidence.

The updates for the CRF150RB will focus on enhanced reliability and durability with a revamped liquid-cooled 149cm³ 4-stroke engine at the forefront of these changes, with stronger power, torque and drivability across a wider rev range the most significant part. Revised suspension settings mean a 37mm inverted Showa front fork and Pro-Link rear suspension system is now in place to deal with bumpy off-road terrain more efficiently.

Honda’s current range of off-road machines start from just £1,200 for the youngster friendly CRF50F mini-bike, with the CRF70F and CRF100F fun off-roaders priced at £1,300 and £1,800 respectively.

In the larger off-road machine range, the current and ever popular CRF150RB is available at £3,800, with the competitive CRF250R and CRF450R (new 2012 model) motocrossers available at £6,200 and £6,450 respectively. The 2011 CRF250R is priced at £5,800 although there is no availability of the 2011 CRF450R.

The enduro-inspired ‘X’ specification 250 and 450 models for 2012 are £5,600 and £5,850, with the 2011 model CRF450X priced at £5,450.

Honda’s latest 2012 three CRF ‘R’ specification machines will be available now, with the CRFs in enduro ‘X’ trim available from November.

HM Plant Honda prepare to defend title lead at Brands Hatch triple-header

The HM Plant Honda team lead the British Superbike Championship standings as the title race reaches the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit this weekend for the first of the triple-header events of the season.

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne currently is at the top of the standings and is seeking victory on his home circuit after winning the opening round at the Kent track on the Indy configuration earlier this year. Ryuichi Kiyonari returns to the UK following his victory in the Suzuka 8 Hour race last weekend and is determined to consolidate his position in the top six in the overall standings ahead of the Showdown. In the Superstock 1000 Championship Luke Jones continues to deputise for the injured Jason O’Halloran and is looking to build on his experience at Oulton Park.

Byrne said: “I am obviously looking forward to Brands Hatch as it is my home round and I do have such good memories from there. I desperately want to win this weekend and I know we have the Kawasaki World Superbike team also racing, but that won’t change my goal and the races are going to be ones to watch! We won on the Indy circuit at the opening round but you can’t really compare the two, all I know is that I need to concentrate solely on winning again as we haven’t in the past rounds. I know we have had the pace but it just hasn’t worked out, but this weekend will be so important for the championship with three races and we will be pushing hard to make sure we stay ahead at Brands Hatch.”

Kiyo said: “I am happy because there are three races at Brands Hatch and it is one of my favourite tracks on the calendar. I think it will be a good weekend for the fans, because it is going to be so close, but that means harder for us riders! It is important to do well at Brands Hatch because it will be the same track as the final round so we need to be fast. There are many riders that can win there, but I need to be strong like I was when I won at Oulton Park earlier in the year. The top four riders you know are going to be fast and fighting for the win, but there are other riders too that could be there and we have the Kawasaki WSB coming too. I think we can win; we have made lots of progress with the HM Plant Honda Fireblade so we need to go out and push hard. I have the number one plate on my bike and that means I should be up the front fighting for the win and nothing less.”

Jones said: “It is definitely going to be good to get back on the HM Plant Honda Fireblade again this weekend and I have done some extra laps at the Ron Haslam Race School too to give me some more time on the Honda Fireblade. Brands Hatch is one of my favourite tracks and having the time in both the Superstock and Triumph Triple Challenge this weekend I think could be of benefit to me. I expect more this weekend because at Oulton Park I was in at the deep end as I hadn’t ridden the Honda Fireblade but now I have a round of knowledge and I know where I can improve. I need to thank the team and everyone involved for giving me this opportunity again.”

Team Manager Havier Beltran concluded: “Brands Hatch is always a big round and the HM Plant Honda team have celebrated some fantastic results there in the past. Both Shakey and Kiyo have been very competitive there in the past and the three-race format should make for some fantastic racing weekend for the fans. It is getting tougher now as we are getting closer to the Showdown as every point is crucial. In the Superstock class Luke has now had a round on the HM Plant Honda Fireblade and has spent some time at the Ron Haslam Race School to get some more time on the Fireblade in order to gain some more experience ahead of this weekend. We are looking for him to improve again this weekend and build on what he has already learnt.”

Jones Replaces Recovering O’Halloran at Oulton Park for HM Plant Honda

Former British 125GP champion Luke Jones will deputise for Jason O’Halloran in the seventh round of the National Superstock 1000 Championship round at Oulton Park for HM Plant Honda, as the Australian continues to recover from the injuries he sustained in a crash at Knockhill.

O’Halloran was involved in a multi-rider incident in the Knockhill race when he crashed out at turn one, leaving him with a broken left leg just above the ankle and, he also underwent operations to remove his spleen and repair a tear in his bladder. The former Australian Supersport champion remains in Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline and had an operation on his leg on Monday. He is expected to be transferred to a hospital nearer to his home near the team’s base in Lincolnshire during the forthcoming week.

Jones currently leads the Triumph Triple Challenge and won the British 125GP Championship in 2007, narrowly missed out on the Junior Superstock title finishing runner up in 2009.

Jones said: “You never want another rider to be injured and I hope Jason makes a speedy recovery. I am really excited to be offered a chance to be part of the HM Plant Honda team; they have so much experience across the different championships and the Fireblade is possibly the best package out there, so I can’t wait until Oulton Park. The Superstock 1000 class is the only one at BSB that I haven’t yet experienced, but I have raced against some of the riders already so I am looking forward to it. I am aiming for a strong top ten finish and I want to thank the HM Plant Honda team for giving me this opportunity whilst Jason recovers from his injury.”

O’Halloran said: “I am doing much better now and making really good progress so it won’t be too long before I can leave hospital. I had the operation on the broken bone in my leg and now that is in a cast, which will hopefully speed up the healing process. Initially after the crash I had to have my spleen removed and there was a question over one of my kidneys but that didn’t end up being a problem luckily. I had another operation on my bladder and that was when I really felt I had turned a corner. I haven’t set a goal yet of when I will be coming back; I want to try and get healthy and then look at what is achievable. I do want to be back racing with the HM Plant Honda team before the end of the season that’s for sure and I need to thank everyone for their support since the crash, from all the medical staff right through to the well wishers.”

Team Manager Havier Beltran concluded: “It is never an easy decision when you have to replace an injured rider and we are pleased that Jason has really started to make a recovery from his accident at Knockhill now. We know that he won’t be back on the Fireblade for the next few rounds at least so we decided to give the opportunity to a upcoming young British rider. Luke has been impressive so far this season in a one-make series and that should put him in a good starting position to race in the ultra-competitive Superstock class. There is no pressure on him from the team in terms of results and we look forward to him joining us at Oulton Park.”

RACING CAREER

Luke started his racing career at the age of nine, racing karts. In 2000 he won the Rissington Club Championship and came 2nd in both the Midland and Welsh Kart Championship.

Looking for a further challenge, in 2001 Luke began racing minimotos and he finished with an impressive 1st overall (Junior Production) in the Southern Indoor Minimoto Championships. The following year yielded two 2nd overall results in both the Welsh 910 Cup and the Southern Indoor Championship (Lightweight Production). In 2003, Luke finished 1st overall in the Welsh (Lightweight Production) 910 Cuo and 1st in the UK (Super Lightweight) Minimoto Championship.

Coming from a family with a strong history of motorcycle racing, in 2004 Luke made his motorcycle racing debut with a 12th overall position in the 125cc BEMSEE Club Championship and 10th position in the MRO British Superteen Championship (Aprilia Production).

In 2005 he won the MRO British Superteen Championship (Aprilia Production 125cc).

Entering the British 125GP series in 2006 saw his first race win in this category at Cadwell Park, finishing 7th overall in the season.

2007 saw Luke with three race wins at Silverstone and Oulton Park, and with that it makes eleven consecutive podium finishes. In this year he has won the British 125GP Championships with one round remaining. One of the biggest highlights of the year was a wild card ride in the Moto GP at Donnington which resulted in 22nd position and a fabulous opportunity to race in an international field. Adding to his success, Luke was voted Hereford Sportsman of the Year.

In 2008, after an impressive start to the season – 3 wins and 2 lap records – Luke was leading the championship. However, an unfortunate crash while testing at Knockhill resulted in a broken collarbone and left Luke unable to ride at two rounds. Luke returned to the championship with 4 rounds to go and achieved 2 pole positions, one win and one lap record. He finished 5th overall.

Eight races into the 2009 season saw Luke with 5 podium finishes and 3rd in the overall championship, only one point off second place.

2010 was a big move up to British Superbikes, again on a Yamaha but this time a R1 Superbike (200bhp plus) for the P.R. Team. After only one real test on the bike previously, Luke scored points at his first meeting taking the team to their best ever result of 12th!! He then continued to suffer from major arm pump. Luke went to Belgium for an operation, returning to race at Knockhill. He finished 16th in the wet, qualifying for a 11th place start on the grid for race two, which unfortunately was then cancelled due to bad weather with Luke in 8th place when the flags came out. His season was the unfortunately cut short due to lack of funding.

HM Plant Honda setting sights on qualifying at Snetterton

The HM Plant Honda team returned to action today for free practice on the new Snetterton 300 circuit ahead of this weekend’s sixth round of the British Superbike Championship.

Shakey was fifth fastest in the morning session and this afternoon he was able to improve his lap time but with the times so close on the new layout he was eighth fastest. Kiyo suffered a technical problem in the opening session which left him sidelined for the second half of the session but he was feeling confident after making improvements to run tenth that he will be able to close the gap.

Shakey said: “This morning I had a run out on Knockhill tyres and was just getting everything in order really. You could see who had tested at the circuit and I was reasonably happy. This afternoon we had a much better session and the lap times were coming easier for me with a few changes that we had made from the morning. Tommy (Hill) was fastest and he is only about a tenth quicker so I am not too worried. The new circuit layout is good and a challenge for all of us this weekend so with some more improvements I think we should have a good qualifying session tomorrow.”

Kiyo said: “I am happy; I was just unlucky in the second session I got dropped down in the last part. I am still getting used to the new section, I am trying different lines and braking markers to see which is fastest. Lap by lap today we have been getting faster and improving the times and I feel confident. It was a shame this morning we had a technical problem as I only did six laps and that meant in the second session the other riders were a bit ahead but I know we are coming better. Today is not Sunday and that is the day that will be important for me.”

HM Plant Honda Team Manager concluded: “It has been a good start to the round for HM Plant Honda. The times here on the new Snetterton 300 are so close that the positions don’t really reflect the performances of both Shakey and Kiyo today. Both riders had a few small issues with the chassis set up but they had a positive session this afternoon and we are confident that we can resolve this before qualifying tomorrow afternoon.”

HM Plant Honda Victorious At Thruxton

HM Plant Honda’s Shane 'Shakey' Byrne extended his advantage in the British Superbike Championship standings to 15 points following two strong podium finishes at the fourth round at Thruxton including a commanding victory in the second race of the day.

In race one Shakey started from 33rd on the grid and after the opening lap he had moved up the order to seventeenth. Byrne was fighting his way through the field and a determined ride saw him duelling for second place on the final lap with Michael Rutter. Byrne took the third place and with it the pole position for race two. In the second race he took the lead on the opening lap and edged out an advantage to score his third win of the season and extend his championship lead to 15 points. Ryuichi Kiyonari had a challenging race day and in the opening race took a top ten finish in tenth however in race two he struggled with the conditions and ended in 19th place.

In the Superstock 1000 Championship it was an incident-packed race and Jason O’Halloran started from the third row of the grid. A crash on the opening lap prompted a safety car interval over the next five laps and when the race resumed Jason was running in eighth place and with the leading pack. He was moving up the order but when the race was red flagged at the end of lap eleven Jason was forced to settle for sixth.

Byrne said: “That was the first time I had ridden the HM Plant Honda Fireblade in the wet conditions and I have to say it was great. I had some real vision problems with my visor and to be honest I couldn’t read my pit board and I only knew it was the last lap because I saw the flag on the start line. I thought ‘oh no it’s the last lap’ and I couldn’t have pushed it any harder. I had a good battle with Michael (Rutter) race two was a bit easier as I started from pole rather than the back of the grid! After the first race I was desperate to get to the front and just ride my own race. I was smoother and the HM Plant Honda Fireblade was on rails so I couldn’t have been happier. The track was quite grippy and once I got to the front I was comfortable and in a rhythm. I think I could have even gone faster if I pushed a bit but it has been a great weekend and all credit to the team. I can’t wait for Knockhill now.”

Kiyo said: “This weekend we were feeling better after free practice and finding more confidence and we had good settings for the dry conditions. Then it rained for the races and it was disappointing as we had the same problem in both. We had tried different settings compared to Croft but I just couldn’t get the confidence to push harder and it was at times a bit scary for me. We will work hard to be fast again at the next round as we need to fight for the championship.”

Jason said: “It was a disappointing race for us, mainly due to the safety car period and the red flag with still some of the race to go. It would have been nice just to go the distance as we were closing in over the last lap. In the first laps after the safety car my visor misted up and that made it even more difficult but then I opened it and it cleared so was able to start moving forward and making some passes. It’s a shame the red flag came out as it made it a bit of a non-event for me in the end, but we are still third in the standings so we can move on and aim high again for Knockhill.”

Team Manager Havier Beltran concluded: “After his crash in qualifying Shakey was confident that he could still be up the front fighting for a podium in the races today; he proved to be right and it made it interesting to watch his progress throughout the race. To come through from the back of the grid to third was an outstanding feat, but it could have been a different story if he had qualified better. It showed how confident Shakey is at the moment and he was obviously then ready to challenge for the win in the second race. In race two he again showed his confidence and demonstrated the strength of the HM Plant Honda Fireblade to lead by such a margin so all credit to him. Kiyo we thought had turned it around this weekend and could be running back at the front; he did laps and we were working on the set-up but we are still not completely there. It is obviously not where we need to be; we have the belief in him and know he can perform outstandingly so we need to resolve it for Knockhill.

“Jason had a strong position in hand at the back of the lead group in the Superstock race and he had a problem with his visor misting up and then he was moving forward before it was red flagged. We are frustrated for him as it could have been a podium today but consistency is paramount and he is still third in the overall standings. We are all working for the same goal and we are feeling confident ahead of Knockhill.”

A Win and Championship Lead Maintained At Croft

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne secured his second victory of the season at the third round of the British Superbike Championship at Croft today as he took a commanding lead in race two to win and maintain his lead in the overall standings at HM Plant’s home round.

In the opening race of the day Shakey had been leading the race when engine failure forced him to retire, however the HM Plant Honda team worked hard between the races and in race two he proved his pace by leading the race and edging an advantage over his title rivals to victory. Shakey, the only rider to have won two races so far this season, now leads the standings by three points.

Ryuichi Kiyonari meanwhile had a difficult end to his weekend as he opted for wet tyres in the opening race and as the track dried he was classified 25th. In the second race he started from the seventh row and worked his way through to 15th after having a challenging weekend with set up at the bumpy Yorkshire circuit.

In the National Superstock 1000 Championship Jason O’Halloran claimed his second podium finish of the season as he took advantage of a good start from sixth on the grid to run third on the opening lap. He was able to make a determined move on Adam Jenkinson to move second and then he bid to close the early lead of Tristan Palmer. His second place means HM Plant Honda maintain third place in the overall standings ahead of the fourth round at Thruxton.

Shakey said: “The first race was obviously disappointing for me and the HM Plant Honda team as I desperately wanted to win and do a good job for HM Plant at their home round. In the first race it was a gamble on tyres and we opted for slicks, but it was the right choice and we were able to build up a lead. We were unlucky to have a mechanical failure whilst leading as we have done so many miles on the bikes and it was just a shame it happened in the race. The HM Plant Honda team then worked hard between the races to get me ready for race two and I had a bit of a strategy to just see how the race unfolded. We tried hard, settled down and then I just pushed to edge the gap and then tried to keep it consistent and control the lead. It was disappointment to elation for me in one day but we were able to end the day on a high and it was a great victory for myself and the HM Plant Honda team at our title sponsor’s home round.”

Kiyo said: “It has been a difficult weekend for me and I have been trying many different changes but we still were running the same lap times, but we have worked hard to try and fix the problem. In the first race it was a decision on tyres and we thought it would rain more, so we went for wets but that was the wrong choice and I just couldn’t push. In the second race I had to start so far down the grid because of race one and then it was hard work but we still made passes and moved forward. It is disappointing for me and the team but I want to try and be back on the podium at Thruxton.”

Jason said: “I got a good start and thought that it might even be possible to take the lead into the first corner but third wasn’t bad from a sixth place start. I dropped off a little in the first few laps as we got into a rhythm which lost me time later in the race on Tristan. We made some drastic changes to the setting for today and I have to thank the HM Plant Honda team as it put us on the podium again. I got my head down and tried to catch Tristan in the final stages but he had a good pace and I just couldn’t close it down enough. To qualify sixth and finish second was a good result today and my confidence is high now for the next round.”

Team Manager Havier Beltran concluded: “A day of unbelievable highs and catastrophic lows for the HM Plant Honda team. We have had issues with getting Kiyo where he needs to be which is disappointing for everyone, but we will be doing everything we can to put that right at Thruxton and return to winning ways. For Shakey it was disappointment too in the first race with an engine failure as we really believed he could have taken a double win here today. The fact that until today the highest he had finished here at Croft was fourth shows he could have taken the first double of the season. It was a great win for Shakey and we are happy that HM Plant Honda and the Fireblade still lead the overall standings after this weekend. For Jason it was another strong race and consistently finishing on the podium is what he needs to be in contention for the Superstock title at the end of the season.”

Pole Position For Shakey and HM Plant Honda At Croft

'Shakey' Byrne will start from pole position for tomorrow’s opening race at Croft at the third round of the British Superbike Championship, following an impressive qualifying session in mixed conditions this afternoon.

Shakey had been fastest in the final free practice session this morning and after running inside the top five he went on to claim his second pole position of the season at title sponsor, HM Plant’s, home round. Ryuichi Kiyonari and the team have continued to work hard with set up and throughout the weekend the double champion has been improving, but this afternoon he had to settle for a fourth row start in 14th position. However the HM Plant Honda team is seeking further improvement before tomorrow’s two races.

In the National Superstock 1000 Championship Jason O’Halloran had a strong start to qualifying but in the closing stages was nudged down the order and he will start from the second row in sixth place. Jason is feeling confident though of further improvement ahead of the race tomorrow as he bids for his first win of the season.

Shakey said: “It was a difficult qualifying session with the changing conditions and that final Q3 is critical for the first race tomorrow. It rained and then it passed and I just went out there and was behind Linfoot and he was pushing so I used him as a bit of a gauge as to the conditions so thanks to him! I was able to pass him and pushed as hard as I thought was possible in the changing conditions; I stayed upright and lucky for me it was enough for pole. This is a big round for HM Plant and so I am really happy that I could secure the pole position for them for tomorrow’s first race.”

Kiyo said: “It has been another hard day but we are improving our speed and I am faster than yesterday. Each session we have improved but at the moment it is still not enough as all the other riders have too. The HM Plant Honda team is working hard tonight and we will again tomorrow morning in warm up to try and improve again to see if we can be faster for the race.”

Jason said: “It has been a tough day; we have just been working through some settings for the race tomorrow so we have focused on that today rather than just a fast qualifying lap. I was disappointed to have got bumped off the front row at the end, but tomorrow is another day and we will be ready to race that’s for sure.”

Team Manager Havier Beltran concluded: “On the one hand we are delighted for Shakey to be starting from pole position for the first race tomorrow at HM Plant’s home round. On the other it is disappointing where we are with Kiyo; we all know he has the ability but we need to resolve the issues he has and then we know he has the potential of a strong race performance tomorrow. In the Superstock class Jason is disappointed to not be starting from the front row, but he is a good racer and we will give him the best package we can to challenge tomorrow. We know that the weather will play a big part in the events tomorrow, so we will be working hard to put the HM Plant Honda Fireblade back on the podium.”

Shakey And Kiyo Aiming High For Croft

The HM Plant Honda team head to Croft this weekend for the third round of the British Superbike Championship with Shane 'Shakey' Byrne leading the overall standings and defending champion Ryuichi Kiyonari in third, ahead of the team’s title sponsor’s - HM Plant - home round.

Shakey has only failed to finish on the podium once so far this season but with only an eleven point advantage in the overall standings he is eager to maintain his form following a positive test with the team ahead of the event. Meanwhile Kiyo will be working hard to repeat his winning form from the previous round at Oulton Park.

In the National Superstock 1000 Championship, Jason O’Halloran is eager to make amends for missing out on the podium at Oulton Park and is determined to push for his first victory of the season with the HM Plant Honda team on his Superstock Fireblade.

Kiyo said: “For me Croft has been a difficult track in the past, although I have won there before. It is a completely different track to Brands Hatch and Oulton Park where we have raced already. It is very bumpy so the setting is going to be critical to be able to win. My HM Plant Honda Fireblade is better than last season already with the work we have done over the winter - we have pushed hard to fight for the wins so I want to be on the podium and winning again at Croft.”

Shakey said: “I am sure it is going to be a tricky weekend as Croft is one of those circuits that can be difficult to find a good set up. But that said we had another test before Croft to make some further improvements so we can try and get it right from the start when we get out in free practice. I am happy to be leading the championship, but its early days and I still need to be up there every weekend trying to get wins and podium finishes. We only managed a fourth and a third at the last round so we need to build on that and get back winning again.”

Jason said: “I am looking forward to Croft as I feel that we need to make amends for not finishing on the podium last time out at Oulton Park. The HM Plant Honda team have been making some changes between the rounds so we are where we need to be come next weekend. We need to be back on the podium again and fighting for that win like we were at Brands Hatch so we will try and rectify that for sure.”

Team Manager Havier Beltran concluded: “Croft is always a key round for the team as this is the local round for our title sponsor HM Plant and we obviously want to put on a good show for them, as always. In the past Croft has produced some mixed results for the team but we hope that this weekend we can come away with some strong results as we continue to improve. In the Superstock class Jason had a solid weekend at Oulton Park, but was disappointed with fifth so he is looking for nothing less than a podium finish on Sunday.”

Motor Cycle Monthly (MCM) - April issue

CBR600F conclusion:
"Honda set out to build a worthy successor to the hugely
versatile, popular and successful original CBR600F. On the evidence do far,
that's exactly what they've done, and at a competitive price of
£7055 on the road. In fact, the CBR seems so capable and such good value
that it makes me wonder why Honda hasn't had a model like this in its range
all along. Whatever the reason, the timing of the CBR600F's return is
excellent and the verdict is clear: welcome back!"

CBR250R conclusion: "The CBR250R is less of a sports bike than its name and
racy styling suggest, but it's a capable little machine and at that price it
looks like outstanding value."

CBR125R conclusion: "Honda has done well in revitalising its smallest
capacity sports bike with a fresh set of clothes that gives it some welcome
additional credibility in the hotly contested 125cc sports bike market. A
head-to-head test would probably show the Yam still having a slight edge in
performance and glamour, but for most riders the Honda's price advantage
will be hard to ignore."

HM Plant Honda Makes Positive Testing Progress At Cadwell Park

The HM Plant Honda team returned to the track today for the first of a two day test at their home circuit of Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire, as they continued preparations for the opening round of the British Superbike Championship season at Brands Hatch over Easter weekend.

Kiyo, Shakey and Jason each completed over 70 laps of the picturesque circuit and with the team working hard since returning from their recent test in Spain a few weeks ago, all three riders were feeling confident of what they have already achieved.

Kiyo said: “We had a very good day on track; the weather was good so we could do lots of laps. The HM Plant Honda Fireblade is already feeling better than before, as the team has been working hard since we came back from Spain. We started this morning completely different to when we were in Spain and each session we made improvements to the engine settings and had no problems. Tomorrow we will do some more work on the chassis but I am happy with the times and we have had a good first day.”

Shakey said: “It has been a pretty productive day, we did about 75 laps and it was great to be back on a UK circuit as it has been three years since I last rode here. I feel like we have got a lot of the ‘donkey’ work out of the way in terms of the basics and now tomorrow we can concentrate more on changes to the Fireblade. We can crack on tomorrow; today we were fast but tomorrow we want to be really fast. There is definitely lots more still to come.”

Jason said: “I am feeling happy with how today went. I love Cadwell Park and to test on a UK circuit that we will race on feels great. We can really compare here what we need to achieve. We have still been working away on the rear of the Superstock Fireblade to try and improve the grip on the exit of the corners, before we went for a radical change to the shock in the afternoon. Tomorrow we plan to work on the front end, but I am feeling good as we have been to three different tracks and we haven’t been a million miles away at any of them so things are looking great.”

Team Manager, Havier Beltran concluded: “It’s been a very productive day all-round for all three riders. We have had a day of quality track time, with all three completing over 70 laps each and we had good conditions. We have a series of items we want to test here and already we have made good progress so we now look forward to tomorrow.”

Kiyo Speaks of His Shock of Disaster in Japan

British Superbike champion Ryuichi Kiyonari has spoken of his shock to the recent events in his home country of Japan, which has left areas of the country devastated.

Kiyo, who comes from Saitama, just 30 minutes outside of Tokyo, flew back to the UK from Japan a few weeks ago in preparation for the forthcoming racing season and was joined by his wife Madoka, and son Kouma, only late last week.

Kiyo said: "Firstly I would like to thank all the fans who have contacted the HM Plant Honda team and also Honda, to ask if my family are ok. Their concern is very kind and I’m pleased to be able to say that my family are safe.

“It is very shocking to see what is happening in Japan now, it is a very bad situation and it is sad to see the news. Some of the places on the news are places I know well or have been to and there is so much devastation - it is just a shock for me and my family. I have spoken to some of my friends and family in Japan and they have been affected but at the moment not as bad as others.

"My home in Japan is ok from the outside, but inside there is some damage, but I am just happy that my wife and baby came to the UK last Thursday just before it happened. I am very sad for all those who have lost friends and family this week and I am going to try and win the first race at Brands Hatch to dedicate to the people back home who have lost so much."

Akrapovic Exhausts Now Available On Hondas

Honda Genuine Accessories has joined forces with the world famous Akrapovic Exhausts to make their reputed products available on some of Honda’s sportier motorcycle models, through official Honda motorcycle dealers.

With many bikers keen to replace the exhaust as a first project on their motorcycle, Honda acted on customer research and feedback across Europe and evaluated the market of replacement motorcycle exhausts. Akrapovic was the brand to come out on top in all surveys, and Honda then built on its previous relationship with the Slovenian manufacturer to provide products for selected Honda machines.

Honda is pleased to now offer the Akrapovic famous performance brand exhausts as a ‘Honda Genuine’ accessory for the first time on the CBR1000RR Fireblade, priced at £978.40 RRP, with the CBR600RR and CB1000R systems retailing at £655.82 RRP.

Expanding the range to further Honda models is currently in the planning, with Akrapovic exhausts due to be released for the CB600F Hornet and all-new CBR600F in April, priced at of £628.96.

Each Akrapovic slip-on exhaust system is available in titanium and manufactured using state-of-the-art technology, with special laser-engraved branding on the body. And being available as an official Honda Genuine Accessory provides further peace of mind with back up from Honda’s high quality servicing and two-year warranty, available on all Honda Genuine Akrapovic exhausts purchased either with a new Honda motorcycle or as an aftermarket accessory.

Honda’s history with the Slovenian manufacturer dates back to 1999, when the original Castrol Honda World Superbike team started working with Akrapovic and won the championship title just one year later with the Honda SP-1 and Colin Edwards.

Honda Goes Hollywood and Arty at the MCN London Motorcycle Show

Honda (UK) will feature Hollywood and art, alongside its acclaimed range of scooters and motorcycles, at next month’s MCN London Motorcycle Show at ExCeL (3-6 February), with a special CB600FA Hornet sporting a unique Hollywood blockbuster film paint scheme to be won and, an artist inspired CBR100RR Fireblade display.

The Honda (UK) stand (stand N555) will host Honda’s current range of machines and some of the stunning new-for-2011 colours, including the new Tricolour and Repsol-liveried Fireblades, the new orange and silver metallic special edition CBR600RR, plus the award winning ‘Sports Tourer of the Year’ VFR1200F, which is now offered in the additional sleek Black Metallic colour scheme. The new-for 2011 CBR600F, CBR250R and CBR125R pre-production machines will unfortunately not be available to see, as they were at Motorcycle Live at the NEC last November, although the production machines will be available in Honda motorcycle dealerships and for test rides from March.

The ‘Power of Lean’ tilting motorcycle stand, a first for any motorcycle manufacturer, will also feature in Honda’s display to enable visitors to experience the lean angle and feel of some of Honda’s machines, and for less experienced or new riders, Honda’s innovative ‘rider trainer’ will be on hand for people to experience life on two wheels in the safety of a static environment.

The unique CB600FA Hornet with its striking paint scheme and host of Genuine Honda Accessories - inspired by Honda’s association with Sony Pictures and ‘The Green Hornet’ anticipated blockbuster due out in cinemas from tomorrow - is the star prize in an exclusive prize draw being offered by Honda until 14 February 2011. MCN London motorcycle show visitors can enter this great prize draw on the Honda stand, with motorcycle enthusiasts across the UK also in with a chance to win by visiting their local Honda motorcycle dealer to complete and submit an entry form.

Also featuring at ExCeL is the impressive Fireblade display which took pride of place in the main Selfridges windows in London last summer. Artist Kyle Bean, with his display theme of ‘The Conservation of Mass’, suspended one complete Fireblade and ‘balanced’ it out with another which was dismantled into hundreds of individual parts, to highlight how matter cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed.

Visitors can also see Honda motorcycles in action with off-road CRF100s and the Montesa trials bike in the new Revolution Live Performance action arena, which features TT legend and Honda rider John McGuinness as part of the riding team.

If the buzz of the Revolution Live Performance show gets your riding taste buds going, why not look into booking yourself a place with Honda’s three experience partners, the Ron Haslam Race School, Mick Extance Off-Road Experience and Redtread Spain, all of which will have a presence on the Honda (UK) stand.

Whether you enjoy riding on the road, track or off-road, for leisure or for work, on a small capacity scooter or a bigger engine tourer for the open road, Honda Motorcycles offers a range of bikes for every purpose and level of riding experience and looks forward to welcoming you to the Honda stand at the MCN London Motorcycle Show.

16/07/2010 - Honda Launches Special Edition TT Fireblades

Honda (UK) is delighted to launch two stunning Special Edition CBR1000RR Fireblades – one 'Hutchy' and one 'McGuinness' – to commemorate the achievements of these two legendary TT road racers.

Both bikes feature awesome special-edition paintwork celebrating Honda's amazingly successful Isle of Man TT campaigns with two record-breaking riders: Ian Hutchinson and John McGuinness.

Ian Hutchinson tore-up the record books at this year's TT races with an unprecedented five out of five solo wins in the Superbike, Superstock, Senior and two Supersport races. To mark his success on his Padgetts Honda race bikes, the 'Hutchy' CBR1000RR celebrates that amazing feat with a brilliant pearlescent white paint scheme that features a map of the 37.73-mile Isle of Man TT course, outlined around the top of the bike. A red line faithfully follows the twists and turns of the historic mountain course, complete with corner names. Both side fairings of the Fireblade are emblazoned with a commemorative decal illustrating all five of Hutchinson's victories at this year's TT races and, his overall TT Championship victory. There is also Ian's unique 'Hutchy' graphic on the tank, along with his signature.

The John McGuinness special-edition makes an ingenious play on the fastest man around the TT course's name. John has traditionally used a representation of a pint of the black stuff on the back of his leathers, and the 'McGuinness' CBR1000RR takes this a stage further by turning the Fireblade into a two-wheeled pint of it! A beautiful and intricate paint-scheme replicates the look of a pint, complete with dew-drops of condensation on the fairings and the creamy white head that only the perfectly poured pint has. John's bike is also adorned on the fairings with a gold map of the TT course and his lap record of 131.578mph and, each bike is also autographed by John, enhancing its exclusivity even further.

Both riders are made up that their Island exploits are being celebrated in such a way. Hutchy said: "It's exciting and really nice of Honda to make these Special Edition bikes. Better still, I've been given the first one which is such a lovely gesture. It's an awesome bike to ride the Fireblade – how we did in the Superstock race shows how good it is. I won't be riding mine though: it will be going straight in the living room! On the paintwork, the skill and attention to detail is just stunning. When you go up close, you can see just how pearlescent the white paint is, it's an amazing piece of work."

McGuinness remarked: "I'm so proud to have a Special Edition bike like this. I'm honoured that Honda has recognised my achievements at the TT in this way and it cheers me up after a 2010 Isle of Man campaign that was hit by bad luck. I feel part of the Fireblade programme now with my wins on the current 'Blade and previous versions, so it's very special to know people can buy this bike. With the one that Honda has given me, like Hutchy, I'm not going to use it, it will join my collection. I've got an older style 'Blade, a V-twin SP-1 and a number of other Hondas. I'm always going to keep hold of it. The paintwork is amazing and every owner's bike will be unique, as each of the bubbles on the bodywork is done by hand and different every time. It's a work of art."

Both bikes are available now to order, from Honda motorcycle dealerships across the country, in both standard and ABS-equipped versions. The 'Hutchy' or 'McGuinness' Special Edition 'Blades are just £1,000 above current Fireblade on-the-road prices, meaning these truly memorable editions are priced at £11,725 OTR, or £12,375 OTR with the added comfort of Honda's amazing electronically-controlled C-ABS braking system developed s
